Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026 · VantagePoint Networks

Your privacy matters to us. VP Compass is built to do as much as possible inside your browser without sending data to our servers. This policy explains what little data is involved and how it is handled.

Who we are

VP Compass is a free network topology design tool operated by VantagePoint Networks. Our website is vpnetworks.co.uk.

What data we collect

VP Compass is designed to run entirely in your browser. We do not create user accounts, store login credentials, or persist your network diagrams on our servers. The topology you design lives only in your browser's memory for the duration of your session and is cleared when you close or refresh the page.

The only personal data that may be processed is your IP address, which is used solely for rate-limiting the AI annotation feature (maximum 10 requests per 24-hour period per IP). This is a transient counter stored in a Redis cache with a 24-hour expiry and is not linked to any identifying information.

AI annotation feature

When you use the "Annotate with AI" feature, the label, type, and VLAN IDs of the selected device — along with your chosen industry context — are sent to Groq's API to generate a short reasoning note. No other canvas data is transmitted. Groq processes this data under their own privacy policy. We do not log or retain these requests.

Cookies and local storage

VP Compass does not use tracking cookies or analytics cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any third-party advertising scripts. The only browser storage used is the service worker cache, which stores application assets for offline use. No personal data is stored in this cache.

Third-party services

VP Compass is hosted on Vercel (vercel.com). Vercel may log standard HTTP request data (IP address, user agent, timestamps) for infrastructure and security purposes in accordance with their privacy policy. We do not have access to Vercel's infrastructure logs.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Google may collect limited data in accordance with their privacy policy.

PDF exports

PDF export is performed entirely within your browser using the jsPDF library. No document data is sent to our servers during export. The generated PDF is saved directly to your device.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

As a UK-based service, we comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Because we do not collect or store personal data beyond transient IP-based rate-limit counters, most data subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability) do not apply in practice. If you have any concerns, please reach out and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

VP Compass is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of VP Compass after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
